Baby Tate is one of the most creative new artists in music. She can sing, she can rap, she can serve up pop, as well as r&b vibes. In perfect alignment with her music, is her image and vibrant fashion style. From looks that include endless colored hairstyles, to outfits that compliment her curves, Baby Tate never gives a dull fashion moment. Baby Tate, born Tate Sequoya Farris, is a Georgia native. With so many musical and artistic influences from the region, its no surprise that Tate would be in sync with the talent around her. In an interview with Billboard, she said, “Music is LIFE for me. And I grew up loving music. Music chose me because honestly, there’s nothing else that I could see myself doing.” (Billboard.com 2022)
One thing she is doing for sure, is bringing the heat with her distinctive style. The Grammy Award recipient loves to play with color. In fact, her 2015 debut EP was titled 'ROYGBIV', and in 2020, her song 'I Am' featuring Flo Milli became a viral social media sensation. She has mentioned that she is inspired by two of the most visually creative female artists in hip hop; Nicki Minaj and Missy Elliot. Tate has a writing pen that seems to never stop. She has given fans on social media bar after bar. In 2019, she answered the call to Minaj's Megatron Challenge, with Babytron, earning over 130K views to date.
Another thing that makes her so special, is that she is a natural bodied beauty that carries herself with great confidence. Natural bodies in the entertainment business are hard to come by these days. Tate is not afraid to show off her beautiful natural figure. But don't get it twisted... respect for Black women is important to Tate. She told XXL magazine that "Black women are very low on the totem pole of respect from other people. I think it’s very important in my music to kind of switch that narrative and make us like, the top.” The lyrics to her hit 'I Am' speak positive affirmations, "I am healthy/I am wealthy/ I am rich/ I am THAT bitch". The 2020 song became a mantra for so many during the peak of a global pandemic and sparked thousands of reposts by celebrity fans and followers online.
This year, Baby Tate has been practically everywhere! You may have seen her on the BET Hip Hop Awards killing the cypher. Or maybe you caught her gracing the blue carpet of the 2022 Soul Train Awards in a black gown by Roberto Cavalli. Another memorable moment was when she hit the stage of Jimmy Fallon with super producer and legendary songwriter Babyface. In an elegant look, she wore a dramatic, blue full length feather coat with a black sequin jumper that commanded all eyes on her. Tate's looks are never the same. You really never know what you're going to get from her next. As sure as her creativity flows, you can be sure to see more stunning looks from Baby Tate in the future.
